Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser tomorrow morning
A fundraiser will be hosted tomorrow at Athy Golf Club, Geraldine Rd, Athy, in aid of Cystic Fibrosis, writes Rose Barrett O'Donoghue.
Guest speaker will be Dr Desmond Cox, of Our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin. The event runs from 11am–1pm, all welcome.
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetically inherited disease that primarily affects the lungs and the digestive system. Ireland has the highest incidence of Cystic Fibrosis in the world — approximately one in 19 Irish people are said to 'carry' one copy of the altered gene that causes Cystic Fibrosis. Despite having such a high occurrence of the disease, we have one of the lowest investments in medical care and research in Europe.
