KBC take second SW League title.

We start this week's update with Sinead and her Grade 2 Ladies who competed in the Ladies Grade 2 Final on Friday 4 December at Carlow Lawn Tennis Club against the league favourites Portarlington.

The girls got off to a slow start, losing their first game two sets to nil but came out with all guns blazing in the second with Sinead and Gillian winning their game two sets to one. In the third game Lynsey and Gillian also managed to nick the game in a three-set thriller but the Kilcullen quartet needed to win their final game to ensure the title coming back to the Rags as Port would have a two-set advantage if the game ended two all in games. Sinead and Annette didn't disappoint and beat their counterparts in the final game giving the Ragettes a great 3-1 win. Congratulations to the champions Sinead, Annette, Lynsey and Gillian on an absolutely fantastic performance throughout the South West campaign.

This is the second title KBC have taken so far this year in South West League adding to our Grade 5 ladies victory in November. The Kilcullen ladies are sure to take another title back later this month when both Kilcullen grade 4 ladies teams meet in their final later this month. Well done to all on such a great achievement and to both KBC Grade 4 ladies captains Sarah and Siobhan.

In the Dublin District League Cup also on Friday 4 December Sean's Division 5 Men hosted an Eire Friends side who were cup finalists in this very competition last year. In this highly competitive quarter final match the Rags were edged out of the cup on points after drawing 2-2 in games. Sean and the team can hold their heads high with the way they played.

There was no rest for the lads however as on Monday 7 of December they travelled to Knocklyon to play in the away fixture of the Dublin District League. In a two and a half hour match the guys were unlucky to be beaten 3-1. All the four games went to three sets and even the Knocklyon lads said that the match could have as easily went KBC’s way. Hard luck to Sean, Enda, John and sub Alan. Sean and the lads are still in a good position in the league with one win, two draws and one loss.

Also in Knocklyon on Monday were Sarah's Division 6 ladies. This however went Kilcullen's way with Sarah, Siobhan, Tara and Kat taking a 3-1 victory back to Kilcullen so at least not all was lost. Well done to the ladies and thanks for the heads up on the way home as designated driver Enda could have picked up some points (not the Badminton or Bardons type!) on the way home with that well hidden speed van on the N7. Cheers girls!!!

Finally Sudeer's Division 8 DDL team played away to Vikings and in a tough second league match the guys lost 3-1. Its not all bad for Sudeer and the lads who drew their first match at home and will play Clontarf in their next fixture. Hard luck to Sudeer, Graham, Alain and Olivier.
