Cnoc na Gréine lights repaired

Almost all of the non-working street lights in Cnoc na Gréine were repaired on Friday last, thanks to engagement between Kildare County Council and Airtricity, writes Brian Byrne.

This follows strong representations at Council level by local representatives, led by Cllr Rob Power, which culminated at a Naas MD meeting in July in officials being told that their response to the issue was 'completely unacceptable'.

The matter has now been resolved 'after much consultation and perseverance' with the Council, Cllr Power says. "I did a manual count of all the broken lights a few weeks ago and shared this with council staff who have been engaging with Airtricity to complete the work. On Friday 10th, Airtricity came out to make the repairs ... just in time for the dark evenings. I understand there may be one or two lights which were not repaired on the day and I'll be following this up to see if it's an oversight or if the repairs are pending."

Cllr Power has commended the Council for engaging in this work as a matter of public safety as the estate has still not been handed over by the developer. "The council have really stepped up here and shown commitment to working in the interest of residents where the developer has failed to do so," he added.

Previously, the local residents had said they were being 'bumped' between the Council and Airtricity in their representations to having the lights repaired.
