Junction widening coming
Well, local people have been asking for it for a long time, writes Brian Byrne. And it looks like we're getting a bit of a wider swing to the junction at The Spout, as part of the road-resurfacing to be started this week.
Of course, it does mean that a car coming from the Nicholastown direction and turning right will now find things even hairier, as the chance to make the turn while oncoming traffic of blocked behind Newbridge bound cars waiting to turn right will be gone.
Yes, I know it sounds confusing. The problem IS confusing. And deadly dangerous.
The County CEO in reply to KCA chairman Niall McDonnell's request this week to have the lights fixed says in his Draft Kilcullen LAP response that 'the Objective SRO6 in the draft LAP' addresses the problem: 'to implement safety and/or capacity' at the R448 and R413 junction.
Now it's all clear ... isn't it?
UPDATE: Actually, now that I look at it again, the actual turning circle into the New Abbey Road isn't going to change at all, unless they move the traffic light standard on the Spout side. Which I suspect isn't happening. So why cut where they're doing it?
