Festival Queen for River Festival
A Festival Queen will be chosen as one of three new elements of the Kilcullen River Festival 2014, which takes place on Sunday 24 August, writes Brian Byrne.
Pubs, clubs, and other organisations are being asked to nominate a 'Queen' candidate for the launch night of the Festival on 9 August, where the winner will be selected by a panel of judges.
Other initiatives for this year include the Tri-Kilcullen triathlon, which will involve a 250m swim, 10km cycle, and 1km sprint. Again, it's hoped that local clubs will provide contestants, or teams of contestants for the event, which can be competed in relay fashion by three people.
A Ladies Tug O'War is also planned for this year, expanding the river-based competitions which already include the traditional Mens event. For the Raft Race, several new entries are already in production for this year's event.
Music will again be a mainstay attraction, and this year's lineup will include an all-girl band from the locality. And once again, local food, various stalls, and street entertainment will underpin what has become the biggest crowd-puller in Kilcullen's year.
We'll tell you more detail as it becomes available.
