Does your child want to be a detective?

There are a lot of organised activities and camps for children in the Kilcullen area over the summer months, but what about having them trained in safe-breaking? writes Brian Byrne.

That's just one of the elements of The Detective Academy's offering, which runs in the Community Centre from 18-21 August, sessions 9.30a,-2.30pm each day. The summer camp is available for children between 5-12.

According to the Academy's MD Olive Gilsenan, she runs Ireland's only dedicated Spy, Secret Agent and Detective Training Academy for children. It has been set up to facilitate every child’s desire to explore the possibility that they can become great Detectives, Secret Agents and Spies.

As well as the afore-mentioned 'safe-breaking', participants will be involved in undercover secret spy missions, will learn how to use cool fun surveillance gadgets, be trained in code breaking, do fake bomb deactivation against the clock, and take part in a variety of mystery solving games, activities and puzzles. They will also be shown the secrets of fingerprint, footprint and tyre track analysis.

Nothing is free, of course. The fee is €100 per child, with discounts available for siblings. Call 086 1081 381 or visit thedetectiveacademy.ie.
