Belfry preview tonight
The Kilcullen Drama Group's presentation of Billy Roche's play 'Belfry' hits the stage of the Town Hall Theatre this evening for the usual guest seniors and young people in the community, writes Brian Byrne.
Set in 'the queer old whispering world' of a church vestry and belfry. This romantic comedy is about a bell-ringing sacristan, a meek and mild bachelor who falls in love with another man's wife and becomes 'a hawk in the night'.
The Kilcullen Group had the benefit recently of a workshop conducted by Padraic McIntyre of Bailieboro, Co Cavan who is Artistic Director of Livin’ Dred Theatre Company based in the Ramor Theatre in Virgina. He has directed their productions The Beauty Queen of Leenane, and Belfry (both nominated for Irish Times Theatre Awards).
The Gala night is tomorrow, Friday 7 March from 7.15pm. This will be a wine reception with nibbles and a fundraiser that will go towards the running of the Town Hall. The Drama Group is the main source of income for the Town Hall, so your support on the night will be most grateful.
The production will then run on Sat 8th March and then Wed 12th March to Saturday 15th March. Entry is €15 on the Gala Night, and €10 on the other nights. Bookings can be made through Berney's Chemist 045 481497.
