Another call for Thompson's Cross redesign

Kildare County Council is being asked to redesign the R448/R418 junction as 'a matter of health and safety', writes Brian Byrne.

The junction is known locally as Thompson's Cross, and has been the location of a number of accidents ever since it was built as part of the M9 to Carlow design works.

Cllr Ivan Keatley has a motion before next Monday's meeting of the Athy Area Committee asking that the Council engage with the National Roads Authority to redesign the junction.

The Councillor is also asking, separately, that the junction at Gormanstown Church on the Dunlavin Road be relined.

Meanwhile, Councillor Martin Miley has a motion before next week's area meeting for the surface of Main Street in Kilcullen to be 'tarred'. The surface has deteriorated badly over the winter.
