Badminton update

There are six club matches to report on this week for KBC, writes Enda O'Neill, PRO of Kilcullen Badminton Club.

The first match we cover was played on Tuesday 12 March with Ladies 2 playing away to Dublins ABC in their DDL match. The Ladies left ABC with a fantastic 3-1 victory. Well done to Jen, Helen, Sarah and Tara.

Thursday 14 March saw Vincent and the Men 3 visit St Laurences in their DDL group match; alas it wasn’t to be KBC’s night and they lost 3-1 in a difficult away tie.

Mix 4 also played their first match of the week away to Danum in their Div 9 DDL match. Oliva, Kasi, Meave and Nicole came away with a fantasic 4-0 victory which moves them through to the Quarter Finals of the League. On their second outing they faced Wicklows Bough in the South West League Cup. This cup match was played on Friday 14 March and visitors Bough could not handle a well organised KBC team. Oliva’s team easily moved through to the Quarter Finals with a 5-1 victory.

Earlier in the evening of Friday 14 March KBC’s Juveniles were hosting rivals Phoenix in the Junior League. The Juveniles beat Phoenix convincingly and set the tone for the Seniors matches.
Mix 2 were the second team at home on Friday 14 March where they hosted Pembroke in the Division 3 DDL. Dave, Darren, Lynsey and Aine kept the nerve and beat Pembroke 3-1. Well done to Dave and his team.

Our final home match on Friday was played by Mix 3 who hosted St Judes. Enda and the team decided to go out with a bang and beat Judes 6-2. This leaves KBC’s Mix 3 second in the table two points ahead. Unfortunately third place Judes and fourth place Baldoyle both have a match in hand. If either team beat the other, it will knock KBC into third place and also knocking them out of the Quarter Finals. Well done to Mix 3 on their win which at least puts them in the right frame of mind for their SWL QF against Athy on Monday 24 March.

Finally a big congratulations to KBC’s Dave McClean and Gareth Hogan who won the St Patricks Graded Tournament on Monday March 17. The lads took home the Grade 2 cup. Not to be outdone by the lads, Caroline Sheedy and Lynsey Walsh (right)won the Ladies grade 3 Cup on the same day, Well done to all.
