Exhausting seasonal programme for the weekend

A really busy this weekend in Kilcullen includes a number of special events for the season, writes Brian Byrne

Ongoing today (Saturday) is the Christmas Fare in the Heritage Centre in aid of the Jack & Jill Foundation, a fine location as well as place to source some more Christmas gifts, with many of the stands operated by local people.

Tonight features a very special occasion with the 'Carols by Candlelight' event in Kilcullen Parish Church, in aid of funds for the parish and Brannoxtown National School. It should be a beautifully memorable occasion with a number of very fine musical presentations. These include the Baldonnel Singers, the Millicent Singers, and the Choir of Brannoxtown NS.

The annual Scoil Bhride Christmas Fair takes place from 12 noon tomorrow, with further Christmas shopping possibilities, Santa and face for the children, carol singers and stalls with toys, books, Christmas decorations, Arts and Crafts, knitting and crochet, dough craft and cakes, and a Monster Raffle Draw at the end. Prizes include an iPad, iPod, Christmas luxury food hamper with Nolans turkey and ham and Ger's vegetables, briquettes, car service, many vouchers for dining out locally, shopping and pampering from local shops and businesses.

A highlight event of the weekend has to be the annual 'Miscellany on Sunday' at the Bermingham family home in Mooretown on the Athy Road. From 2pm there will be the most eclectic range of local entertainments, seasonal foods and mulled wine and a never-ending teapot, and more neighbours and friends than you'll get to see at any other time of the year.

Finally, but not by any means the least, the town Christmas Tree will be lit at 6pm on Sunday evening in Market Square, marking the official start of the Kilcullen Christmas Lights programme. It's beginning to get even more like ...
