Lots of birds in Kilcullen
Observed on survey walkSome 35 different kinds of birds are listed in the Biodiversity Survey commissioned by Kilcullen Community Action, writes Brian Byrne.
They were noted by ornithologist Tom Cooney in his walks along the banks of the Liffey through Kilcullen and include many native species such as tits, the blackbird and robin. Summer visitors include swallows and martins.
The Survey says only five of the species were found on the river. It provides a good explanation of how interlinked the environmental habitats and food chain in the area is.
The Survey was directed by Dr Mary Tubridy and was produced with the help of funding from the Kildare Leader Partnership.
