Check that you are registered to vote

In order to assist people in checking their details on the Register of Electors, to amend their details or to register to vote, Information Clinics will be held in libraries and other locations throughout the county, commencing on the 3rd September next, writes Annette Aspell.

The dates and locations are: Athy Library - Tuesday 3rd September 3-7pm; Leixlip Library - Thursday 5th September 3-7pm; and continuing at various locations throughout the county during September including Naas, Castledermot, Kilcock, Celbridge, Kildare, Newbridge and Maynooth.

Details with regard to the locations and times of all clinics is available on the Kildare County Council website and will be published locally in advance.

The Register of Electors can be checked at the local post office, library or Garda station or online at www.checktheregister.ie.  Enquiries can also be made by phoning Kildare County Council on 045-980201 or by email to register@kildarecoco.ie.

If you are not registered or your details are incorrect, application forms for entry/correction may be obtained from the local post office, library, Garda station, directly from our head office at Áras Chill Dara and can be downloaded from our website.

In order to vote in the referendum on the abolition of Seanad Éireann and the setting up of a Court of Appeal on Friday, 4 October, you must be an Irish citizen and your name must be entered on the Register of Electors 2013/14.  You may check if you are registered on www.checktheregister.ie.

If your name does not appear on the current Register of Electors and you wish to vote you may apply for entry on the Supplement to the Register of Electors.  The closing date for inclusion on the supplement for the forthcoming poll is Tuesday, 17 September 2013.

The closing date for application for inclusion on the Special and Postal Voters Lists for the upcoming referendum is Monday, 9 September 2013.  This applies to such categories as circumstances of occupation, third level students and the disabled, whether living at home or in a nursing home. 

Application forms may be downloaded from the Council website or obtained in post offices, community libraries and Garda stations.
