A week of crime, vandalism

GAA, CPC, hit by break-insThousands of euro worth of damage was done to Kilcullen GAA Club on Thursday night during a break-in, writes Brian Byrne.

Windows were broken and pitch paint poured around in what seems to have been wanton vandalism against a club that has been doing so much good work in recent years, especially for Kilcullen's young people.

They currently are fundraising to bring about substantial improvements to their second training pitch and it is a shame to see such damage at this time.

Also, in addition to last Tuesday's early morning theft and break-in attempts at some residences, after which a young man was arrested, gardai are also investigating a break-in at Cross and Passion College which took place on Monday morning last at 7.30am.

A lone male, probably early 20s, dressed in a grey hoodie and red baseball cap forced some external doors open and in spite of setting off the alarm continued to search a number of rooms in the school including the office. Nothing was taken — it seems that he may have been looking for cash.

And while while a local family were attending a wedding in Dunlavin this week, their car was broken into and handbags, and some cash and phones, were taken. One of the handbags was discovered subsequently dumped in the ditch in McGarry's Lane - ironically only about half a mile from where the family live.

Needless to say, if anyone can offer observations or information which may lead to catching the perpetrators of any of the foregoing, get in touch with our local Garda or Naas Garda Station.
