Petra calls for Catholic communicators
A Kilcullen woman is the project coordinator for a new Catholic national group which aims to train people to be able to speak on the news media about their faith.
Petra Conroy is one of a group of individuals involved in 'Catholic Comment', which plans to provide 'authoritive and accurate communicators' of the Church's mission and teaching.
Though completely independent, the idea is to complement the work of Catholic Church leaders and 'assist the media in good faith'.
Catholic Comment is taking applications for a series of media training sessions for a Speakers Panel. The application form is available at www.catholiccomment.ie/speakersMarch2012.doc. Training will take place over three residential weekends: Friday 20-Sunday 22 April; Friday 18-Sunday 20 May; and Friday 1-Sunday 3 June.
Applications for these sessions close next Friday, 16 March. Full information about the group can be had on its website www.catholiccomment.ie from where a brochure can also be downloaded.
"Selected applicants will be offered training in how to express the mission and teachings of the Church, clearly and reasonably, in a media context," Petra says. "They will need to be available to speak on radio or television on Church and faith issues when called on, often at short notice. Speakers will be committed Catholics, enthusiastic about their faith and faithful to the Church’s teaching and mission."
