Exercise for arthritis

A series of special exercise sessions for arthritis sufferers will begin next week in Kilcullen Parish Centre, writes Brian Byrne.

In a pilot project sponsored by Go for Life and the Kildare Branch of Arthritis Ireland, admission will be free for four weeks. The sessions begin next Tuesday 13 March at 11am.

All exercises will be undertaken seated on chairs in a programme designed specifically for arthritis sufferers who find it difficult to exercise because of the stiffness and pain in their joints.

Exercise can reduce pain and inflammation, improve joint function and help with weight control, and improve the sufferer's mood.

This series has the potential to help improve mobility and build muscles, as well as providing an important social connection by meeting up with people in a similar situation.
