Claudia's friends gather at CPC

The scene of yesterday's tragic crash at Brownstown where two local young people lost their lives.

Friends of Claudia Govea gathered this afternoon in Cross & Passion College to remember their former classmate and her friend Jamie Lee, who were killed in yesterday's car crash at Brownstown, writes Brian Byrne.

They were joined by parish priest Fr Michael Murphy, who told them it was a tragedy 'almost impossible to comprehend', but that it was important that they gather together to support each other.

Earlier this morning, at mass, Fr Murphy said the community would remember Claudia and Jamie in their prayers. "We pray for their families, and for the others injured in the tragedy," he said.

Fr Martin Harte, who has just arrived this weekend to work in Kilcullen parish, said the accident was 'devastating', and it is a 'terrible and difficult time' for the families concerned.

Claudia, originally from Cuba, was a pupil of CPC until June of this year, when she completed her Leaving Certificate. She lived at Hillcrest, and attended CPC all through her second level education. Her family have requested that their house be kept private at this time.

The College has expressed its deep sadness at the loss of Claudia, one of many such expressions of sorrow heard across the community last night over the tragedy which has claimed two young lives. Principal Paul Tyrrell says trained counsellors will be available to all the current and former pupils through the coming week.

Jamie Lee's funeral will take place to Crookstown Parish Church on Wednesday, arriving at the church at 11am.

Anyone with any information on the accident is asked to contact the gardaĆ at Naas on 045 884300.
