Kilcullen in shock at double death crash

UPDATE 23.09: The local community is stunned tonight, particularly its young people, following this afternoon's horrific car crash which claimed the lives of two of their own, writes Brian Byrne.

The dead are a 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, both from the general Kilcullen area, but their names have not yet been officially released.

Two injured women in their 30s are being treated in Naas Hospital.

The road to Naas was closed until late this evening as Garda investigators examined the crash scene.

The 2-car collision happened close to the Brownstown junction with the Corbally road just after the Link Business Park, shortly before 3pm.

Four ambulances attended along with the Fire Service and gardai. One car ended up on its side in a field. The other remained on the road, its front seriously damaged.
