Art Exhibition joins River Festival
The Kilcullen Art Group is to have its annual exhibition this year as part of the Kilcullen River Festival 2011, writes Brian Byrne, which is planned for the weekend of 28 August.
Meanwhile, preparations for the Festival itself are now well in train. Set up by an enthusiastic group of local business people, the Festival Committee are dedicated to organising, promoting and delivering an enthusiastic fun filled family day out for the whole community.
"The day will be fantastic fun but its success will rely very much on local participation," says one of the members, Geri Dineen. "We will be staging a tented market below the Canoe Club premises. This will include food stalls, as well as crafts and local artisan suppliers. Other areas of participation would include building and manning rafts for a Fools Regatta. We are looking for members to form cross-river tug-of-war teams, victims for the Gladiator water pole jousting, face painters, clowns, musicans, cleaner uppers and general volunteers on the day."
The Festival will also include street performers and kiddies amusements and a barbecue will feature a Pig on a Spit. An open air disco will also be part of the festivities.
The Festival Committee comprises Brian Fallon/Mary O'Neill, Fallons Cafe & Bar; Geri Dineen, Dineen Company Formations; Eddie Cross, Bardons; Steve Keneavey, Kilcullen Garda Station; Col. John Courtney, Defence Forces; Andrew Cross, Cross's Centra; Tara Lynham, Picture Framing Services; Paul Carey, Good Food Gallery and Brendan O'Connell, O'Connell Insurances.
Anyone interested in participating either in the organisation or in taking a stall to promote their business, can email the organisers.
