Kilcullen facilitates transplant/dialysis visit

An outing today by more than 100 participants in the upcoming European Transplant & Dialysis Games to several County Kildare attractions has been organised by a number of Kilcullen-based volunteers for the Games.

The visitors, some of more than 350 transplant and dialysis athletes from 24 countries who are taking part in the Games, will begin their trip in Kildare with a visit to the RACE jockey training facility. From there they will go to the Kildare Village, where they will have lunch courtesy of the Village management. After lunch they will visit the National Stud.

Every athlete at the Games, which are centred on Dublin City University during this week, has either received a transplant or is currently on dialysis while awaiting a transplant.

Twelve sports, ranging from athletics to volleyball, will feature in the Games, and it is expected that many of Ireland’s leading sporting figures will turn up to witness the excitement for themselves.

Local businessman James Nolan is one of three Kildare athletes taking part.
