Canoe Club building open soon
The new Kilcullen Canoe Club premises is on target to open inside a month.
The clubhouse has been built by the Market Square developers as part of an agreement by which the previous club property was acquired for the development.
Built upstream from the old premises in the land swap, the new building comprises an upstairs meeting room with panoramic views of the Liffey, dressing rooms and boat storage areas, all enclosed in a secure walled property.
The facility also has a state of art floating dock, allowing safe and easy access to the river no matter what the flood level is at.
Founded during the 60s, the Kilcullen Canoe Club was one of the pioneers of its kind, and its members have competed nationally and globally. One of its early members, Brendan O'Connell, competed at Olympics level several times.
While the Market Square development was under construction, the club used a temporary dock further up the the river.
