Sculpture ready for installation
A crane will be required to complete the installation of the new sculpture at the Dun Ailinne representation site at Nicholastown.
The sculpture by Noel Scullion, in the form of an ancient javelin, is awaiting erection on the site, the recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action was told.
"The nature of the site makes it a difficult job," Noel Clare said. "We can't put a crane on the mound, so it has to be able to work from the edge."
JJ Warren noted that the positioning would be crucial. "There's about 2mm to play with, and we'll have just one shot at getting it right."
A key element of the sculpture is that when the sun rises on the two equninoxes, it will shine through part of the edifice in a certain way.
On the funding for the sculpture, Noel Clare reported that the paperwork is still with KELT. He said the funds from the National Heritage Council for the related display board had been processed much more easily.
