Sculpture raising imminent

The sculpture for the south end of town which will be the centrepiece of a replica of the Dun Ailline ancient royal fort is completed and ready for placing.

Work on the foundation will probably be carried out in the next week, a meeting of Kilcullen Community Action heard on Monday night.

The sculpture by local artist Noel Scullion is a representation of an Iron Age spearhead found at Dun Ailline during the excavations of the site in the 1960s/1970s.

Its positioning has an astronomical aspect related to the equinox which occurs around 20 March and 22 September, the two days in the year when day and night are of equal length.
