Fascinating heritage events
The Bat 'Talk & Walk' from the Heritage Centre on Thursday night will include a visit to the bridge.
It seems that there are bat colonies under the bridge.
The Diary looked there recently, but couldn't see any. Which doesn't mean anything.
The Diary can't make the meeting. But anybody who can, should. And we'd welcome a report.
Meanwhile, the highlight event of National Heritage Week in Kilcullen is next Sunday's seminar and walk on Dun Ailline, best known locally as Knockaulin.
The seminar, which begins at 10.30am in the Heritage Centre, will include three talks, one of which is a paper by a participant in the archeological digs on the ancient site during the 60s.
The papers are Dun Ailline: the Forgotten Royal Site by Dr Susan A Johnston, George Washington University; Dun Ailnne: Royalty and its Landscape by Mr Padraig Clancy, Archeologist, with Margaret Gowan and Co Ltd; and Ailline: A Literary and Historical Perspective by Dr Edel Bhreathnach, UCD.
Participation in the whole event is €10 and is limited to 100 places.
