'Appalled' at littering

The old bugbear of litter was raised again at the recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action (KCA).

Herbie Sheehan said he was 'appalled' at the amount of litter in the vicinity of the square not long after it had been cleaned recently, and he also noted that signs and rubbish were being thrown into the river.

"You would lose heart to look over the bridge, sometimes," he said, adding that the lifebuoy provided in that area was now also in the river, caught in some rushes.

"People are doing a lot of work in the town and there is a small minority causing problems. It's an anti social thing, like smashing the phone boxes, and these people have to be dealt with."

KCA chairman Kieran Forde thanked all who had helped with the Tidy Towns effort in advance of the judging.
