Council 'won't buy a can of paint'

Kildare County Council was criticised last night for spending up to €40,000 on Kilcullen's new traffic lights system, and then failing to 'buy a can of paint' to properly mark the crossing.

Kilcullen Community Action chairman Kieran Forde used the situation as an example of the council 'not doing the small things' in its dealings with Kilcullen.

"There is clearly enough room to paint in turning lanes to the right to match with the filter light system," he told last night's fortnightly meeting of KCA.

"Why these lines haven't been put down, with big arrows, amazes me. Surely they don't cost that much?"

He said the community is not getting 'that kind of cooperation' from the council. "At this stage I'm thoroughly frustrated with them," he said.
