BUS SHELTER TO BE PART OF CPC WORKS

New bus stop location.

Kildare County Council is to coordinate with the contractor and designer for the works at Cross and Passion College to deliver a bus shelter at the bus stop conditioned as part of the project, writes Brian Byrne. That information was provided to Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer at yesterday’s meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge MD, in answer to a question from her on the agenda.

Additional bus stops in Kilcullen will be evaluated for upgrade works, including bus shelters, in 2027. In answer to a further question from the councillor, bus notification poles at the church stop and Newbridge Road stop in Kilcullen for the Local Link Service are likely to be fully assessed for the delivery of required infrastructure in 2027.

Meanwhile, Cllr O’Dwyer also proposed allocating €8,000 from LPT funds to the Public Lighting Department for the installation of public lights at Mile Mill Cross, including the installation of ducting and civil works.

BARGE VIDEO EXPLORES ART, HOUSING AND LIFE

A video installation exploring dwelling beyond basic shelter needs is currently being presented on the Robertstown Community Barge, writes Brian Byrne. The exhibition, Idle Musing, by artist Marta Golubowska, runs from 15-23 September with limited visiting hours. 

At the official opening on 11 September, Social Democrats TD Rory Hearne highlighted art’s role in addressing the housing crisis, while Kildare County Council’s Paula Barret emphasised the importance of spaces for daydreaming. 

Golubowska’s work reflects on ownership and the intimacy of space. 

Culture Night events include a clay workshop and a canal tour, both free but requiring advance booking. 

A free talk, “Is it Warm on the Boat?”, will be held on 25 September. 

The project is funded by Kildare County Council Arts Service and supported by Riverbank Arts Centre.

RED HOT MUSIC CLUB RESUMES IN OCTOBER

The Red Hot Music Club in Kilcullen resumes with its 2026 Autumn Series on October 29th with Susan O’Neill performing at Fallon’s Back Room. 

The lineup continues with Mike Hanrahan & Eleanor Shanley in November, Luka Bloom in January, and Leevy in February. 

The club continues to offer quality music in a unique venue, with tickets available soon on Eventbrite

EXHIBITION OF SKETCHBOOK CLUB WORK

A reminder that an exhibition on Thursday evening at Woodbine Books, themed ‘Renewal’, will showcase creative works from its Sketchbook Club, writes Brian Byrne.  The exhibition, open from 6pm to 8pm, will feature pieces from the work done between February and July, along with the sketchbooks themselves. 

The club, funded by the Books at One Community Prize Fund, provides a monthly creative space for local people of all ages, from first-time sketchbookers to professional artists. Sessions are free, led by Lyn Worrall, and Woodbine Books also provides refreshments.

PARISH LOTTO DRAW RESULTS

The numbers drawn in the Kilcullen & Gormanstown Parish Lotto Draw held on 15th September 2026 were 1, 7, 15 and 19. There was no Jackpot winner, and next week's main prize will again be €20,000. The value of the follow-up draws is €20,000 and €9,400.

The winners of the €50 Open Draws are James and Ella Kenirons (Promoter Breda McCormack), Siobhan Mitchell (Nancy Fitzpatrick) and Caroline Murray (Adrienne Byrne).

The winners of the Promoters Draw were Vivian Clarke and Kilcullen Credit Union, and the winner of the draw for those in the Parish Centre on the night was Adrienne Byrne.

AED HOUSING UPGRADED

Kilcullen Community First Responders have installed a new housing for the AED at Kilcullen Credit Union to protect it from the elements. The installation includes solar power to help keep the unit charged.

The group expressed gratitude to the community for their donations which go towards the provision and maintenance of life-saving equipment.

Meanwhile, as part of their programme to spread knowledge of CPR and using AEDs across the community, the Responders recently held a course for the staff of Kilcullen Community Childcare & Education Centre, which was very much appreciated by all there.

CHAIR YOGA IN NARRAGHMORE

Chair Yoga with Maryclare has resumed in The Old Hardware, Narraghmore, on Wednesdays.

A BIT OF EVENING COLOUR

With a definite drawing in of the evenings, KCA thought it a nice idea to put in a bit of nighttime colour downtown. 

These lights in the Heritage Centre Lane represent the first part of a plan to decorate the space in a number of different seasonal styles.

NEW PRESIDENT OF NEWBRIDGE COLLEGE UNION

Emma Scully (Class of 1995) has been appointed as the Newbridge College Union President for the Academic Year 2026/27. Transitioning from her role as Vice President, Newbridge native Emma brings extensive committee experience and a strong commitment to maintaining connections with alumni. 

She acts as a vital link between the school’s history and its current community, while also fulfilling her responsibilities as an English and French teacher at the College. 

The upcoming year promises to be outstanding under Emma’s leadership, with a focus on enhancing alumni relationships, organising significant events, and supporting the broader school community.

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR AFC FUN RUN

Registration is now open for the Fun Run being hosted by Kilcullen AFC on 11 October 2026, starting at 11am. The event will take place at the Clubhouse, with registration available at JustRunEvents.ie. 

Participants can choose from an Adult 5K for €20, an Adult 10K for €25, a Family 5K (2 adults and 2 children) for €50, or a Child 5K for €10.

OCTOBER DATES FOR RUSSBOROUGH ANTIQUES FAIR

Russborough will host The Irish Antique & Decorative Fair on 10-11 October 2026, organised by the Irish Antique Dealers Association. Open from 11am to 5pm daily, the event will feature a diverse range of antiques, decorative items, and collectables in Russborough’s historic setting. 

Visitors can explore furniture, silver, paintings, jewellery, rugs, mirrors, ceramics, glass, and porcelain, with expert dealers available. 

Admission is free and the fair is open to the public.

LOCAL GYM HELPS OUT D&W MOUNTAIN RESCUE

A 24-hour cycle by members of Kilcullen's No1 Fitness in June raised €5,280 for the Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team, writes Brian Byrne. Several members of the group gathered this morning at the gym to celebrate the achievement.

The event was held on the weekend 20-21 June on the track at Mondello Park.

The group has been raising funds with the 24-hour cycle for several years, the proceeds of each one going to a different local charity.

DWMRT is a completely voluntary, 24/7 emergency rescue service, with highly trained volunteers responding to incidents including lost and injured hikers, trail runners and missing persons, often in extremely challenging conditions.

The No1 Fitness team expressed a massive thank you to all of the sponsors, donors, supporters, family and friends, and to everyone who helped in any way before, during and after the event.

LAUNCH OF PARACHUTE PROJECT

Riverbank Arts Centre and Kildare County Council Arts Service have launched The Parachute Project, a six-week collaboration led by Brian Cregan with TY students from Curragh Community College. 

Combining art, science and engineering, the programme included workshops, off-site sessions and Dublin gallery visits. Students explored photography’s origins, cyanotype printing and the Curragh’s heritage, experimenting with light and materials while shaping the parachute design and choosing individual prints on T-shirts and tote bags. 

Cregan said: “Growing up between Newbridge and the Curragh, I’ve always felt connected to this landscape; the project weaves local heritage and cyanotypes with young energy.” Watching Curragh Community College’s Transition Year students take ownership of their designs and collaborate was a highlight; their parachute became a shared canvas of teamwork. “I am proud of their achievement and grateful to textile designer Aideen Cross, Riverbank Arts Centre and Kildare County Council Arts Service for realising it.”  Cross spent three weeks guiding pattern cutting, sewing and reinforcement for a safe launch. 

Kildare filmmaker Richard Lennon documented the project; his short film, featuring interviews and the Newbridge Town Hall launch, will be screened privately at Riverbank on 16 September for students, families and guests. 

Éilis Lavelle, Arts Officer for Kildare County Council, praised the initiative as a meaningful, skill-building journey. 

During Culture Night 2026, the parachute will be displayed in Riverbank’s foyer and the film screened from 4–8 pm; all are welcome.
