BUSY WEEKEND FOR SHAMROCKS

South Kildare Shamrocks had an busy weekend, writes Martin Sheridan. The under-16 team secured a victory over Maynooth on Friday evening in Kilcullen. On Sunday, the Shamrocks Academy under-8 team enjoyed a hurling match against Sallins, while the under-10 team had a fun game in Rathangan.

South Kildare Shamrocks U6-U8 Academy

The South Kildare Shamrocks Hurling Academy for U6-U8 age groups is back. Training sessions will be held every Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm at the Two-Mile House GAA Astro Pitch. 

The academy welcomes children aged 5 to 8, with helmets and hurleys available for beginners. 

Shamrocks is an amalgamation for Hurling of three clubs — Athgarvan GAA, Kilcullen GAA and Two-Mile House GAA. New players are encouraged to join. For updates and information on older age groups, follow their social media.

Shamrocks Academy for U6/7/8 restarts this evening

South Kildare Shamrocks Under 6/7/8 Hurling Academy resumes this evening, Wednesday, 12th, at Two Mile House GAA. The sessions will take place on the astro pitch at 6:30pm. 

The club invites everyone to attend, and they will provide all necessary equipment for the children. 

An enjoyable evening is promised for all participants.

Scoil Bhride's young hurlers

The 2nd Year pupils of Scoil Bhride have enjoyed learning the skills of hurling over the last three weeks, writes Martin Sheridan, courtesy of SKS mentors and help from former students. 

Many thanks to Scoil Bhride for giving us the opportunity to encourage hurling with all the boys and girls. 

Hopefully, we will see them on Monday evenings at 6.30pm at the Juvenile Pitch in Kilcullen (up beside the ball wall).

Hurling for Third Classes in Scoil Bhride

Third Class pupils in Scoil Bhríde have been enjoying hurling training over recent weeks, with the support of South Kildare Shamrocks. A club mentor, assisted by a Transition Year student, has been visiting the school to introduce the children to the skills of the game. 

Over the last three to four weeks, all four Third Class groups have taken part in the sessions, learning the basics of hurling in a fun and active way. 

The South Kildare Shamrocks have thanked the school and the teachers involved for providing this opportunity and helping to organise and support the coaching programme.

A reminder that the South Kildare Shamrocks Skills Challenge takes place this Friday evening, 20 February.

Sessions run from 7.30pm to 8.30pm at Scoil Bhride, Kilcullen.

Shamrocks seek new hurlers

The South Kildare Shamrocks hurling club is looking for new members, especially in the age groups of U11s born in 2015 and U12s born in 2014. 

If you are a member of Kilcullen GAA, Two Mile House GAA Club, Athgarvan GAA & LGFA Club, you can play hurling with South Kildare Shamrocks. 

Hurling does not conflict with playing football for your home club, and there are teams for age groups up to minors.

Big interest in hurling skills

The future of hurling in Kilcullen seems very bright if the attendance at the opening night of the Indoor Skills Challenge 2026 last evening is anything to go by, writes Martin Sheridan of the South Kildare Shamrocks.

It was great to see so many boys and girls turning out on a Friday evening to try the skills of hurling. 

Thanks for all the help from mentors and parents. Much appreciated. See you all next week.

South Kildare Shamrocks hurling challenge 2026

The 2026 SKS Hurling Skills Challenge begins tomorrow, Friday, 16 January 2025, and continues every Friday evening for seven weeks. Hurleys and helmets are provided. 

Sessions run from 7.30pm to 8.30pm at Scoil Bhride, Kilcullen. Open to all, including new and experienced hurlers, boys and girls up to 12 years old. 

Cost is €25 per child (family discounts available). Book in advance via Eventbrite or Revolut to 08 60265139.

Shamrocks celebrate end of season

South Kildare Shamrocks had their end-of-season celebration and Christmas Raffle in Kilcullen GAA Clubhouse yesterday afternoon, writes Martin Sheridan. 

A great turnout of Shamrocks players from all age groups attended. Thanks also to the many parents and supporters who came. 

All of our Christmas Raffle prizes were sponsored. A huge Thank You from all involved with the Shamrocks to all of our sponsors. Much appreciated.

Wishing everyone a healthy and peaceful Christmas.  Santa might send us on some more hurlers for 2026.

Christmas Raffle by South Kildare Shamrocks

The South Kildare Shamrocks are holding a Christmas Raffle with prizes that include food and wine hampers, vouchers for toys and gifts outlets, and for restaurants, writes Brian Byrne.

The Shamrocks are a combination of hurling and camogie players from GAA clubs in Kilcullen, Athgarvan, and Two Mile House, with scores of young people playing every week, competing successfully in many county divisions.

Tickets for the raffle cost €10 and can be purchased via the QR code on posters around the community, by contacting Suzanne at 086 8255937, or by email southkildareshamrocks@gmail.com. The Draw will take place on Sunday, 7 December.

Shamrocks U12 hurlers win Shield

South Kildare Shamrocks under-12 hurlers have finished the season on a high, writes Martin Sheridan. 

In a hard-fought match against Round Towers, the Shamrocks lads showed a tremendous amount of skill and commitment to win the Shield final. 

Great to see many Shamrocks players enjoying their hurling. 

Great support on the sideline, with lots of happy parents and mentors.
