Deer Society wildlife photography competition


All amateur photographers have an opportunity to hone their wildlife photo skills with the Irish Deer Society National Photography Competition 2025writes Brian Byrne. Entries are now open, with the closing date being 1 October 2025.
Photos of any live insect, bird, or mammal are eligible, with prizes which include a Spypoint LM2 trail camera, hotel and shopping vouchers, IDS polo shirts, and IDS membership.
There are two categories, U16 and Adult, and details of rules and how to enter can be found on the Irish Deer Society website here. An entry fee of €2 applies for each photo submitted, by email, and the photographer retains the copyright of their images. No AI manipulation is allowed, the competition is only for amateur photographers, and U16s must have permission from their parents to enter.

Photography workshop on Monday


A workshop on Camera Basics is being held on Monday next 8 May in Kilcullen Parish Centre.
Organised by Kilcullen Photography Club, things click off at 7.30pm.
There’s a €5 participation fee, and new members to the club are always welcome.

Landscape photography tour


Noted wildlife and nature photographer Tom Horan is conducting a day-long landscape photography tour in County Wicklow next month, writes Brian Byrne.
The small group event will on on 4 February, from sunrise to sunset.
Tom will help participants sharpen their composition skills and capturing best images in different light and weather conditions.

The fee in €95 per person. Participants are responsible for their own transport and food.
