Narraghmore call for planter/flower bed minders

Narraghmore Development CLG is asking members of the local community to help keep the village blooming this summer by taking care of one of its flower planters or beds.
Families and households are being invited to choose a planter or garden bed and look after it over the summer months. The commitment would involve regular watering and occasional weeding to keep the displays looking well.
Residents who would like to take part can select their preferred planter or bed on the sign-up form at this link, after which one will be allocated to them. Prizes will also be awarded at the end of the summer for the best-kept planters.

Widows' Paradise is a timely pick-me-up

This is the week every year when
a pick-me-up can be needed after the ups and inevitable subsequent downs of the Christmas and New Year, writes Brian Byrne. The Narraghmore Drama Society's presentation of Sam Cree's Widows' Paradise is just the medicine.
Directed by Maryclare McMahon, the three nights in Kilcullen Town Hall were fully booked before last night's opening preview. The play is a barrel of laughs, and everybody left the theatre smiling.
With five women ostensibly seeking a break from the man kind, and five men on a fishing weekend, piling them all inadvertently into the same caravan space is a recipe for all sorts of reactions, misassumptions, and potential romantic mixups. The Narraghmore group cast milk the script for all it can give, and keep the laughter going.
The women players are Olive Whelan, Lorraine Fallon, Majella Hickey, Mary Gorman and Helen Lambe. The men are played by Kilcullen's Derek Phelan, with Fionn Whelan, John Grufferty, Padraig Whelan and Pat Donnelly.
A lot of fun, and if you are lucky enough to have your tickets for tonight or tomorrow night, any post-Christmas blues should evaporate.
A few of the Diary's photos here will give the idea.

Guaranteed to be a great night, tickets at €15 are on sale in The Old Hardware, Narraghmore, and at Woodbine Books, Kilcullen.

Very successful Pink Run fundraiser

Photos: The Old Hardware Facebook.

At least €4,100 was raised for Breast Cancer Ireland through the annual Narrraghmore Pink Run yesterday, writes Brian Byrne. Despite the very wet morning, there was a large attendance at the event.
The preliminary total includes a large donation from the River Griese Trout and Salmon Angling Association, which held a sale of fishing equipment that raised over €1,000.
The organising team, led by Deirdre Collins and her volunteers, were supported by the volunteers of The Old Hardware, and Mel's of Narraghmore, which provided pastries that went down a treat.
The Diary could not attend, but the photos here are from a large selection on The Old Hardware Facebook page that can be seen at this link
