Call for upgrade to pedestrian crossing
A request that the council explore the possibility of upgrading the current pedestrian crossing outside Cross and Passion College to a push-button crossing has been made by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer, writes Brian Byrne. She has the matter down for discussion at the next meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District.
The crossing is on a stretch of road where traffic backs up significantly from the crossroads traffic lights. The councillor says a push-button system would benefit both pedestrian safety and traffic management at the location.
"Because people cross individually, it can lead to further traffic buildup," she says. "With a push-button, a group can cross together, and this allows more time for traffic to flow."
A similar crossing to that requested is in use outside Scoil Bhride.
