Submissions open for Jake's Law 30km/h limit

Kildare County Council has opened a public consultation on a proposal to implement a 30km/h speed limit in all estates that the council has taken in charge, writes Brian Byrne. This is known as Jake's Law, in memory of 6-year-old Jake Brennan, who was knocked down and died outside his home in Kilkenny on 12 June 2014.
The estates listed as taken in charge in Kilcullen are Bishop Rogan Park, Cnoc na Greine Woods, Cnoc na Greine, Sunbury Close, Lui na Greine, Hermitage Park, Laurel Wood, Castlemartin, Esker Lea, Moanbane Park, Avondale Drive, Avondale Grove, and Conroy Park.
The proposal aligns with Section 9 of the Road Traffic Act 2004, as amended, and the proposed byelaws will be on public display from 23 September 2025 to 4 November 2025 at the offices of Kildare County Council. The purpose of the new speed limit is to establish more suitable speeds on residential streets.
Submissions are invited from the public and can be made by 4 November 2025 online at the link here, or in writing to the Senior Executive Officer, Roads, Transport, Mobility and Open Spaces, Kildare County Council, Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas, Co Kildare W91 X77F.
