Scoil Bhride pupils try out FOD skills wall

Scoil Bhride pupils from the 6th classes took the opportunity this morning to try out the new skills wall in advance of tomorrow's official opening of the Kilcullen GAA Field of Dreams, writes Brian Byrne. They included hurling and camogie players on one side of the wall, while the footballers practised on the other side.

It was a good test of the versatility of the new facility, just one of the major additions to the club's grounds that comes with the €1 million development.
All of Scoil Bhride today was decked out in black and white, with many banners and flags made to show the pupils' allegiance to 'The Rags' and Kilcullen. In addition to the players trying out the skills wall, other school pupils marched up to the GAA grounds and circled the Field of Dreams.
The event was coordinated by Gary Kenny, a teacher in 3rd Class, who is also a stalwart of Kilcullen GAA. "We met Martin Murphy and members of the club committee of Kilcullen," says Scoil Bhride's Muiris Ó Raoghaill, who accompanied the group. "Martin and Gary invited all the students to the grand opening tomorrow. We were all very impressed with the beautiful facilities, and I'm sure this will lead to a big increase in membership of the club."
Scoil Bhride did its own share of fundraising for the FOD project, and the school has access to the skills wall during the daytime when it's not in use by the club.
Tomorrow's event begins with the Academy around lunchtime, and from 2pm, a range of family-friendly activities and music, as well as exhibition and practice games across the new pitches.
The official opening will take place around 4pm, with RTE presenter of The Saturday Game and Saturday GAA Live, Damian Lawlor, in charge of interviews and speeches.
