Halverstown CC prepares for 2025 awards

As the 2025 cricket season nears its end, Halverstown Cricket Club has added a final fixture, writes club chairperson Des Drumm. It has been a successful season for the club, and there will be much to reflect on in the awards ceremony planned for Sunday, 28 September, at Piper’s Hill School.
This will see awards for the Players of the Year for the several teams that the club fields. Halverstown 1 and Halverstown 2 play in the Leinster League, and Halverstown 2, in particular, had an excellent season under Jim Hodgson, winning promotion as runners-up in his first season as captain. Halverstown 1 retained their standing in Division 12 following some excellent late-season performances. There will be awards for the outstanding players in both Boys and Girls Under 13 teams and both Boys and Girls Under 15s.
The Halverstown social team, The Oaks, will also have its Player of the Year Award, but it also has one final unscheduled game. It will play a team of refugees and asylum seekers from Crooksling and City West. Cricket is a shared passion, as Anne Byrne, a volunteer with Blessington Welcomes, explained: “Many come from countries such as Afghanistan and Pakistan, where cricket is strong. They are huge cricket fans and are looking forward to the game.”
As a community-based club that draws on members of many nationalities and backgrounds, we are pleased to offer a little something that helps people in need and the Oaks team, under captain Ger O’Shea, is looking forward to providing them traditional Halverstown hospitality for the day.
