Pilot programme to provide school holidays meals

A new pilot programme is operating in County Kildare to provide vulnerable children and young people with meals during the school holidays, writes Brian Byrne. It's being run through the InSync Youth and Family Service which has operations in Athy, Newbridge, Kildare Town, Naas and Clane, and Leixlip.
The pilot programme is designed to help those who already avail of the hot school meals initiative during school term times. It is rolling out initially by InSync to those children and young adults already availing of their services and youth programmes.
At the pilot stage, it will not be opened publicly – but if anyone requires the services of InSync, including hot school meals, they are encouraged to contact InSync directly.
The initiative has been welcomed by Kildare South Fine Gael TD and Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries, and the Marine, Martin Heydon, who says it will support young people who may not have access to a filling meal when schools are closed.
The programme began last week.
