Out of Africa for Maintain Hope
Another Academy Award-winning film showing at Kilcullen Bridge Cinema on Sunday next will be a treat for film fans. A special screening of Out of Africa takes place on Sunday, 18 May, at 3 pm. This charity screening is in aid of Maintain Hope, and the film was chosen because it was shot on location in the Ngong Hills of Kenya, where Maintain Hope does much of its work.
The 1985 film stars Meryl Streep and Robert Redford and is known for its beautiful cinematography. Out of Africa won no less than seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Directed and produced by Sydney Pollack, it tells the story of Karen Blixen (1885-1962), the Danish noblewoman and writer, and her efforts to maintain a coffee farm through various struggles and disasters. An epic love story also unfolds.
Admission is free, but it is a ticketed event. Tickets are available in Woodbine Books and on Eventbrite. There will be a reception with refreshments served from 2 pm and Gerry O’Donoghue will speak about the work of the volunteers of Maintain Hope.
