Fairy Trail Family Day under way ... and then it got even better

Well, the magic and Punch and Judy show with Mr Bubbles kicked off the Fairy Trail Family Fun Day in the Valley, writes Brian Byrne, and children and their parents who came early getting the good seats for the first show. But there was plenty of room for the later shows, during one of which Mr Bubbles was helped by a Kilcullen assistant, nine-year-old Penelope.
There was ice cream, face painting, and storytelling. In addition, the Dulra Forest School was running a drop-in Nature Play event for under-fives, making art and fairy puppets. Mrs Bubbles showed how to decorate cupcakes, and there was lots of interest in sponsoring ducks for the Lions Duck Race scheduled for 4pm to finish off the day.
In these days of screens and devices everywhere it was very refreshing to see how the wizardry of a live entertainment performance so well engaged both children and parents. There's life in the old ways yet.
Well done to all who organised this free event under the auspices of Kilcullen Community Action.
