Busy day for National Biodiversity Week
A Butterfly Walk and Talk will be held at the Bog of Allen Nature Centre in Lullymore this morning, as part of National Biodiversity Week 2025, writes Brian Byrne. Hosted by the Irish Peatland Conservation Council, the free event is open to all.
Lullymore is home to 26 of Ireland's 35 butterfly species. Participants are recommended to wear strong footwear and appropriate clothing for the weather. Refreshments will be provided after the walk, which will take three hours.
Meantime, if you can't make that, there'll be a talk on Pollardstown Fen by Michael Jacob broadcast on KFM Radio this morning, on the Kildare Today show between 9am-11am. It is part of a series on Kildare's Wild Places produced by Juanita Browne and Crossing the Line Films.
And this evening from 9.29pm, a Bat Walk at St Fiachra's Garden will be conducted by the Kildare Bat Group and David Rowan. Booking is essential at irishnationalstud.digitickets.ie.
