Sinn Fein local area rep appointed

James Stokes has been officially appointed as the Sinn Féin local area representative for the Newbridge Local Electoral Area, comprising Newbridge, Athgarvan and Kilcullen.

He narrowly missed out on election to Kildare County Council in the June 2024 local elections, placing 7th in the 6-seat race after several days of recounts. 

He says his focus will particularly be on access to education, public transportation, housing, and better amenities. These include working to achieve a direct public bus service from Newbridge to Maynooth University and strengthening support for parents seeking school places for their children. 

He adds that he also wants KCC councillors to implement the Kilcullen Design Statement.
