ESB pole part of Back Lane traffic issues
An electricity pole that is part of an issue with traffic difficulties at the entrance to the Back Lane serving the Eurospar car park cannot be moved by the ESB because it is not on a public road, writes Brian Byrne.
The recent KCA meeting heard that the lane is in fact the collective property of the premises owners adjacent to the lane, who would have to pay the costs.
The ongoing traffic issues there were raised by Eoin Houlihan during any other business, who described the current situation for vehicles trying to enter and leave the very narrow lane as 'just awful'.
Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer told the meeting that repeated requests to have the pole moved have elicited the same answer, that it is in a private space and the property owners using the lane would have to pay. She said it is not within the council's remit to have it removed. "We have tried, because it would make a little bit of difference, you could edge in a little more."
