Kilcullen connection in lifeboat fundraiser

An appeal to raise €117,000 for a replacement inshore lifeboat to be based with Wexford RNLI will be launched this weekend at Lock 13 Gastropub in Sallins (NOT Clane as previously written), writes Brian Byrne. The initiative is being undertaken by a group of RNLI fundraisers based in North Kildare, and the new boat will be named the Cill Dara when it is acquired and commissioned.
The D-Class lifeboat is specially effective for rescue operations in surf, shallow water and confined locations around cliffs, rocks and caves.
The volunteer lifeboat crew with Wexford RNLI have launched on service 313 times since 2002, rescuing 258 people and saving 18 lives.
North Kildare RNLI have raised funds for the lifeboat charity over the years, through holding events, selling lifeboat merchandise and carrying out street and bucket collections.
Kilcullen's Pat Stafford is a fundraiser for the RNLI and the Diary will be talking to him about the initiative at the launch on Saturday afternoon. "This is a very noble and worthwhile organisation and worth supporting," he says.
