Public consultation on rural road speed limit
A public consultation has opened at Kildare County Council on the upcoming implementation of a 60km/h speed limit on Rural Local Roads, writes Brian Byrne.
The limit will replace the 80km/h limit currently in place on such roads. The commencement date of the new limit is the end of November 2024.
Submissions can be made on the plan up to 20 September, either through the Council's consultation portal here, or in writing to the: A/Senior Executive Officer, Roads, Transportation and Public Safety Department, Kildare County Council, Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas, Co. Kildare W91 X77F, before 5pm on the closing date.
In a second phase of the programme to lower speed limits, a further public consultation in 2025 will deal with planned reductions in Urban and National Road Speed Limits.
