New play set among rowers to debut at Croí Anú
A reminder that a new play set in a rowing club will be performed at Croí Anú in Moone THIS EVENING Friday 6 September. The Girls in the Boat was written by Angela Keogh of The Harvest Press, who performs in the production alongside Susie Mitchell, Mary Pat Moloney and Elaine Rowe.
Set on the fictional shores of St Brendan's Lake, Lakeside Boat Club is a vibrant rowing club at the edge of an Irish town. Four women, whose lives intertwine, face their struggles on and off the water.
The choreography for this work reflects the elegance, strength and endurance of the characters. The play gives the audience an insight into what drives the athletes and how they overcome the challenges that competitive sport and life bring.
The work asks some uncomfortable questions about winning and losing but ultimately it is a celebration of the deeper victories that sport provides alongside the incredibly focused engagement that competition demands.
The play is directed by John McKenna. Starting time 8pm and tickets at €15.
