Voting over, now the nail-biting
A view from the election count in 2019. |
The final turnout in Kilcullen for yesterday's elections was 48.2pc, writes Brian Byrne. The figure is similar to that in the last local elections in 2019, and seems also to reflect the overall national trend.
Through the day the pattern was similar to last year, with 44.1pc up to an hour before the 10pm closing, from 27.2pc at 6pm, 21.2pc at 4pm, 12.9pc at lunchtime and 3.9pc by 9.30am.
Now the count begins for the anxious candidates, of which there are 14 in the Newbridge LEA contesting the six seats.
In the 2019 election, the Newbridge area count didn't get going until late Saturday and it was Monday before it was completed on the 11th count.
