Inaugural Jeremy Burke music bursary awarded

Pictured with Louise Kelly are Sean Browne, Max Haughton (winner), Grace O'Donnell, Josh Kelly, Patrick Carey Hyland, and Enda Byrne. Evie Sammon was unavoidably absent.

The inaugural JBforever27 Music Bursary was presented in Cross and Passion College today to student Max Haughton, writes Brian Byrne. The bursary is in memory of former CPC student and talented musician Jeremy Burke, who passed away unexpectedly in Toronto, Canada, in January 2023.
The cheque was presented by Jeremy's mother Louise in the presence of Fourth and Fifth Year students who will be eligible to compete for the funding next year. Max Haughton was one of seven students shortlisted for the inaugural award. Presentations of vouchers for €100 and a ukulele each were given to the short-listed.
The seven are Sean Browne, Max Haughton, Grace O'Donnell, Josh Kelly, Patrick Carey Hyland, Enda Byrne and Evie Sammon (unavoidably absent from today's event).
In advance of announcing the winner, Louise reflected on Jeremy's life both as a young music student and when he later became involved in music professionally. She also thanked the staff of the CPC Music Department for their dedication to their students, and for helping to organise the inaugural bursary. She encouraged all students who are involved in music at CPC to submit entries to the 2025 bursary, no matter what their specific areas of interest.
A foundation set up in Jeremy's memory has raised substantial funding for the Kevin Bell Trust which helps repatriate Irish people who die abroad, and the CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) and AnamCara charities.
