Consideration is to be given to the possibility of street lighting at the Carnalway five cross-roads, following a request by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer, writes Brian Byrne. She had asked for the work following a nighttime traffic incident.
The councillor told the meeting that emergency responders had difficulty working in poor light at a very complex junction, and that the nearest street light was further along the Brannockstown road opposite Carnalway Church.
Officials said the request will be placed on the Kildare Lighting Infrastructure Priority Schedule (KLIPS) Register and will be considered together with other competing demands for new public lighting infrastructure. The report also noted there are currently no funds available for additional lighting under the annual public lighting budget.
Cllr O'Dwyer also asked if there is a protocol for lighting at such junctions and was told there is not.
