Jeremy Burke Bursary open for applications
A bursary for CPC music students in memory of Jeremy Burke is now open for application, writes Brian Byrne. Jeremy, a very talented musician, died suddenly on 22 January 2023 at the age of 27 and the bursary has been established by his family.
The funding is open only to CPC music class students from 5th and 6th years who play modern popular music. It can be used in a number of ways, such as buying equipment, paying for tuition, or helping with third level music studies. The bursary is worth €1,500, and the first one will be awarded on 1 May 2024 by Jeremy's family.
Jeremy was involved in the bands Ghost Notes, Fool the Joker, Overlockers, and Stone Sea, and with bands on the Toronto music scene where he was living at the time of his death. A songwriter and musician from a very young age, a selection of his work is available on YouTube, SoundCloud and the Remembering Jeremy Burke Facebook page.
Letters of application for the funding should be emailed to susanfox@cpckilcullen.com before 6pm on Monday 23 April. No late applications will be considered. Applicants should detail their interest in contemporary popular music and plans they may have to develop their talent. A link to a performance video no longer than three minutes should be included with the application.
All applications must be accompanied by a signed parental consent.
