The Community Tree Planting event at the Kilcullen GAA Field of Dreams site was referenced has having gone 'really well' at the March open meeting of Kilcullen Community Action, writes Brian Byrne. The planting was a joint initiative of KCA and the GAA, in association with the 100 Million Trees for Ireland project, and attracted many families to help.
"There were several hundred people there through the morning," Noel Clare said, adding that more than 2,000 saplings had been planted, all native Irish trees including rowan, birch, oak, Scots pine, crab apple, whitethorn and hazel. Thanking all who helped, Noel said he hoped the initiative "will pay a dividend for years to come."
He especially complimented the help from Catriona Taylor of Blessington Lakes Garden Centre, who was both the link to the 100 Million Trees project and also oversaw the planting.
Expressing his own appreciation for the event, Ray Kelly said the children involved particularly had a great time.
The meeting also heard that some saplings which were left over have since been planted in the Valley Park.
