Two GAA fitness opportunities start next week

Kilcullen GAA Lights Up 2024
walk starts next Monday night 8 January from 8pm to 9pm for six weeks to 12 February, writes Liam Cronin, in partnership with RTE's Operation Transformation and Get Ireland Walking. The MyLife/GAA Every Step Counts challenge 2024 with Irish Life, through their MyLife health app, will also be kicking off next week.
The aim is to make exercise more accessible on the dark winter nights and to offer our community an opportunity to get together and socialise in a healthy way.
Registration for Lights Up 2024 will start at 7.50pm, warmup at 7.55pm and the walk starts at 8pm sharp, from the GAA training pitch (opposite the Astro pitch). Free Ballygowan water will be served during the walk, sponsored by Britvic Ireland.
Please make sure to have your walking gear with bright hi-viz vest/clothing at all times when walking — if you don’t have hi-viz clothing, Kilcullen GAA will provide it on the night. All are welcome — you don’t have to be a Kilcullen GAA club member.

The Every Step Counts Challenge is a virtual challenge, with people registering through the app which will record their walks.
In each province there are three O’Neill’s vouchers up for grabs valued at €2,500, €1,500 and €1,000. Any club that tracks more than 4,000km during the challenge will be entered into the prize draw in their province.
Last year Kilcullen GAA and Community finished 6th in Leinster with 34,638 steps from 193 participants in five weeks which was amazing. Finishing 6th from over 200 clubs competing in Leinster and becoming the number one walking club in Kildare was a brilliant achievement.
This year we are aiming to finish in the top five, targeting over 200 participants and breaking through 40,000 steps. To join the challenge, follow the steps below:
1. Download the free MyLife app from Apple App Store or GooglePlay.
2. Tap on the Social tab on the MyLife App.
3. Select Challenges.
4. Select the challenge for Leinster.
5. Tap on Join & Select “Kilcullen GAA”.
