Field of Dreams is progressing on track

Overall view of site last week

The pitch contractors for Kilcullen GAA's Field of Dreams development are expected to begin work in May, writes Brian Byrne. This is in spite of poor weather impacting the development, which got planning permission only this time last year.
Beginning last May, some 9,300 cubic metres of filling soil has been moved onto the site and the final levels were clear by the end of August. “It’s going well, despite very wet weather in July and September,” says Martin Murphy, chairman of the club’s development committee. “They slowed us down somewhat, but we’re now back on track. We hope to have grass growing by September.”

Kerbing for a third of the planned 1.2km cycle-walkway has also been laid, showing part of what is planned to be a public link between several of the town’s larger estates and will also facilitate access to the club grounds from the nearby schools. An extension to the club’s car park will provide 60 extra spaces.

The development is on eight acres acquired from Kildare County Council under a land swap arrangement. When completed, it will see a second full-size pitch and two Juvenile training pitches, as well as a Skills Arena.
