Tracey raises need for Athgarvan-Naas bus link
A need for a Local Link bus service to Piper's Hill School and Naas Hospital from the Athgarvan-Kinneagh area has been raised at Kildare County Council by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer, writes Brian Byrne. She brought forward the issue by way of motion at yesterday's meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge MD.
The councillor told the meeting that she gets many calls from the area from people who need to travel to the hospital, but have no public transport option.
She also noted the need for the service to the Piper's Hill Secondary School for parents in Athgarvan-Kinneagh who have to drive their children to the school because there are no places in schools closer to them.
"I believe it would be beneficial to ascertain the demand for such a service and quantify the need to invest in public transport in this location that could service both needs," she said, suggesting that it could be similar to the very successful new service that Local Link provided through Two Mile House. "The Two Mile House service provided by Local Link demonstrates that if rural towns and villages have access to reliable public transport they will use it," she concluded.
In response, Cllr O'Dwyer was told that, with the agreement of the members, the Council's Transport Department will write to Local Link regarding the matter.
